TAXES LOW.
As our
Property Appraiser, Lori helped lead the fight in South Florida for
portability and tax relief. When she was our County Commissioner,
Lori demanded fiscal responsibility and cut waste to keep our property
taxes down. Amazingly, she successfully held the line on Broward County
taxes -- cutting our tax rates for eight years in a row! She also
sponsored the county law that granted a second $25,000 homestead exemption
to Broward seniors on fixed incomes, and sponsored the Broward’s
“Granny Flat” ordinance that granted additional tax savings
to qualified families that specifically build a home addition so that
aging relatives may live with them.
CRACKING
DOWN ON FRAUD.
Lori
created the office's first professional Fraud Unit, staffed with a
combination of career law enforcement officers and knowledgeable appraisers.
As of mid-2008, the Fraud Unit investigated nearly 15,000 cases, which
resulted in over $19 million in back tax liens and penalties, and
the addition of more than $3 billion dollars in assessed value back
onto our tax roll due to fraudulent and unlawful exemptions. She vows
to keep fighting to make tax cheats pay their fair share -- which
helps keep taxes lower for law abiding property owners.

PEOPLE SOLVE PROBLEMS.
Lori
understands working families and the problems we encounter with government
offices. That's why Lori is so accessible, answering taxpayers emails
at the office seven days a week, and publishing her direct dial office
phone extension right on the office's website. She also also made
high quality customer service a top proriority. Lori's office phone
are answered by real, live people -- and not those annoying automated
("Push 1 for ...") phone systems. And her free
online service and community outreach staff provides maximum convenience
for taxpayers.
